Peacock Caddis

Since it was originated by Jim Bonnett in the early 70’s for fishing the fast rough water on the South Fork of the Boise River in Idaho, this pattern has proved effective on similar waters all around the country.  The combination of peacock herl and Adam’s type hackle seems to be attractive to the trout in a plethora of different patterns.  A fine gold or copper rib is sometimes added to form a more durable body.

Hook : Dry fly; #12 – #18

Body : Peacock herl

Wing : Deer hair

Hackle : Brown dyed grizzly
