Borcher Special

This pattern was originated in Michigan quite a few years ago by Ernie Borcher.  It still remains a popular fly in that region.  The body is formed by tying a clump of the turkey in at the tail position and winding it forward.  The wings are tied upright and separated.  Since the tail and body materials are not very water resistant I would suggest using high quality hackle when tying and a good floatant when fishing it.  The fragile body is made more durable with a wire rib.

Hook :  Dry fly; #10 – #18

Tail :  Ringneck pheasant tail barbs

Body :  Mottled turkey wing quill barbs

Rib : Fine gold wire

Wing :  Dun hackle tips

Hackle : Brown dyed grizzly
