Balloon Caddis

This Roman Moser fly can be fished dead drift or skated across the surface. The latter method is effective during a heavy hatch when the trout are actively chasing pupa. Due to the foam head it is a good pattern for
faster water.
Tie on the foam first about 1/3 back from the eye. Let it extend forward while tying the back portion of the fly. Dub a rough abdomen up to the tie-in position of the foam. At this point tie in the elk hair wing extending back past the bend of the bend of the hook. Dub the thorax forward to the eye. Fold back the foam on top of the thorax and secure it at the original tie in position. Trim the foam leaving a short tag.
Variations include using peacock herl for the thorax and/or a wing of sparse elk hair over zelon. The most used color foam is yellow.
