Moore’s Compara Buzz Fly
Joe Moore of West Yellowstone, MT has came up with a pattern called the Moore’s Compara Buzz fly. He took the inspiration for this fly from Gary Lafontaine’s Buzz Ball fly ( a previous FOM) Joe added a compara dun wing and a sparse tail. He uses this
pattern during July and August as a caddis pattern on the streams and rivers in the Yellowstone area. When I first saw an example of this fly given to me by Al Bowers both of us thought that this fly looks nothing like a caddis pattern. But after tying several
of these flies we could see how the “buggy” appearance of this fly could be taken as a caddis, stonefly and even a mayfly.

Wing – Comparadun deer hair
Body – A grizzly, orange and dun hackle. Tied in using that order at the bend of the hook and wrapped forward up the the eye of the hook. Wrap the dun and orange hackle, then trim them short in the round. Finally wrap the appropriate sized grizzly hackle through the dun and orange hackle and trim the grizzly on the top and bottom only leaving the hackle sticking out on the sides of the fly.
