Mahogany Quick-Site Spinner

Mayflies return to the water to mate, lay eggs and die. This stage is referred to the spinner stage and it can be very productive fishing if you hit it right. Many spinner flies, in our region, can be duplicated by a mahogany spinner. These spinners can be large, such as Brown Drakes and March Browns, down to small #20’s for other mayflies. The biggest problem is that most spinner flights take place near dark making the fly very difficult to see. This pattern is tied with a piece of bright yellow foam, in the thorax region, making it a little easier to see.
