This is an easy pattern to tie and I have had great success using it for steelhead. I have even caught trout locally on it as well.

Start by wrapping the hook with thread, then tie in the tail. A few pieces of flash will do. Next use a 5”-6” piece of crystal braid. Fold it in half. Tie in the middle of the piece at the tail side of the hook. Then create increasingly larger loops as you work toward the head. Tie in at the head and whip finish.

Hook : #12 – #16, Scud Hook (Typically I use #14)
Thread : Any (I usually use red to imitate a bloodline)
Tail : Pearl Crystal Flash
Body : Pearl Crystal Braid in a variety of colors (orange, yellow, pink, white, blue)
